Inventory Update

Hi all,
We are finished with our spring shows and have all the yarns still packed in their bags. Consequently, the inventory numbers on the website may not be correct. I am not sure when I can get around to updating them as I am leaving for an art exhibit in Edinburgh, Scotland a week from today. I am still working on the final painting that I have to complete, then of course, there is all the final organizing of all artwork to take with me. The best I can guess is that I can get the inventory figures updated the week I get back after June 4.

I apologize for any inconveniences that this may cause in advance, but I have to get the artwork done. If by any chance I can update before I leave I will post it.

It is almost shearing time…

I am sitting in my 3rd floor studio tagging some yarn to take to Knit New Haven tomorrow (weather permitting) while listening to said weather hit my skylight. Yes, it is snowing and blowing yet again but the goats fleeces look ready to shear. Hopefully the warmth they are also forecasting will come and then stick around so I can get that fiber off!

I have been very busy with my fine art work. The first quarter (or so) of the year is chock full of juried exhibition deadlines and then I have a big wildlife art show in Charleston, SC  in February that I do a lot of painting for. That is over but I still have 4 more exhibition deadlines and a series of paintings to finish by mid-May for a show in Edinburgh, Scotland. I tell all this so you can understand why the dye pots have been cold for a long time!! However, they will get cranking in time to have lots of nice yarn (some new yarns too!) for our first show of the year, The CT Sheep & Wool Show in Tolland, CT April 27.

After that we will be at the New Hampshire Sheep & Wool, May 11 & 12. With all the painting I have to do, that will be the only festivals we will be doing for the spring season, so be sure to see us at either of those!

Home from Rhinebeck, looking forward to New England!

We are home from Rhinebeck! It was awesome madness! Most of us who have been attending Rhinebeck as customers and vendors for many years agreed that there were more people there on Saturday than we have ever seen! We had a great time meeting new customers and greeting old friends!

Today is a breather day for me; checking inventory, ordering more yarn to dye and paying bills. Oh, and the house needs a good vaccuum since I have been attending festivals/shows for the last 4 weeks!

Fear Not! I will be steadily dyeing to restock all of your favorite yarns for the New England Fiber Festival at The Big E in Springfield, MA November 3-4, 2012, Saturday 9am – 5pm, Sunday 9am – 3pm

After that festival, we will be working hard to get the proper inventory numbers up on the website and dyeing to fill in the wholes! See you in Springfield in a few weeks or online for your winter knitting!

Interweave Knitting Lab New England just around the corner!

We are dyeing yarns like crazy to get ready for the fall shows – our next show is Interweave Knitting Lab New England at the Radisson Hotel Manchester, Manchester, NH – October 4-7, 2012. The Knitters’ Market is open to the public Thursday 5p-8p,Friday & Saturday 10a-6p, and Sunday 10a-2p.

Trials & Tribulations of building our own website!

After returning from Stitches Midwest in Chicago a little over a week ago, Kasey & I have turned our full attention to the website. I had tried to photograph as much yarn as possible before leaving for Chicago and since returning, I have been editing and color correcting yarn photos. Kasey has been uploading and inputting them as I get them to her, and we both are trying to get the inventory numbers correct! Small victories have been had; we finally figured out how to get the USPS shipping module to work which was very good, as my other choice was using a shipping rate table based on the states. That was bad as it meant a whole lot of inputting with all the different weight breaks for all the states…. we did a little happy dance when we figured out the teeny tiny box I needed to check to make the USPS plug-in function. The other little victory was figuring out how to get the yarn description to be at the top of the page. Before I found that, you had to scroll past all the colorways to get to it.

We are probably about 2/3 of the way done with the yarns. We need to find all the holes where colorway pictures are missing. In the meantime, I am creating a page with all of our colorways but with different yarn bases that you can refer to if needed.

We are a little disappointed with the dull appearance of our thumbnails; apparently that is a function of WordPress. Our website is built using an e-commerce theme for the blogging software WordPress. When you click on the photos and the pop-up appears, the colors are correct and vibrant. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like we can do anything about it at this moment.

Again, I beg your patience as we wend our way through this process. The fun will begin when all the fall shows are happening and we are trying to stay on top of the inventory! But I always subscribe to our farm motto- ‘Never a dull moment!’

Our New Website Format Unveiled!

Hi everyone,
We returned home this past Sunday from basically a two week trip  of shows; first The Midwest Fiber & Folk Art Fair north of Chicago and The Knit & Crochet Show in Manchester, NH. I made the decision to quickly change over to the new website url and format after so many of our new customers asked whether or not we had an online shop. I was hoping to have the entire website populated with our yarns before I launched the new format website (meaning that I had to photograph everything before anything else could be done!!!!) but I decided that could be an on-going process. The two shows were so successful that I now have a lot of dyeing to do to actually have the yarn to photograph, but that is a good problem to have. So wander around, take a look at our new format, and by all means, let me know about any issues, problems, or just ‘stuff’ you find that I need to work on. This will truly be a work in progress for the next few months!
